About Course

ASRA GLS – Ground Level Scout: Talent Identification

Level: Semi-Pro
Format: Hybrid (live sessions + guided field tasks + admin labs)
Duration: ~40 hours over 4 weeks
Price: R5000
Focus: The why behind player types, and the admin engine that makes scouting usable inside a club.

Who it’s for

Community and semi-pro scouts, academy staff, and head coaches who manage trials and player funnels and need a reliable operating system for sourcing, logging, evaluating, and moving players through a compliant process.

What you’ll be able to do

  • Map the “why”: align player profiles to your game model, squad gaps, and pathway (age, minutes, resale logic).

  • Prioritise profiles: build role-based archetypes and escalation rules (who moves first and why).

  • Run airtight admin: contact logs, consent, data capture, trial packs, compliance and handovers.

  • Package evidence: blend live notes with short video, references, and context that decision-makers trust.

  • Own the pipeline: plan discovery days, manage waitlists, and track outcomes (advance/park/release).

Course Outline (modules)

1) Why This Player? (Context before checklists)

  • Club identity → role archetypes → “fit” signals vs “noise”

  • Market realities: age, cost, minutes, homegrown status, pathway feasibility

  • Outcome: a Role Profile Canvas for two positions (e.g., CM8, Winger)

2) Pipeline & Prioritisation

  • Source mapping (school, LFA, tournaments, referrals, agents)

  • Priority rules: ceiling vs floor, time-to-first-team, risk scoring

  • Outcome: Discovery Plan + Priority Ladder for your region

3) Evidence Pack that Travels

  • Live-watch structure, references, two-clip rule (prove the claim fast)

  • Light-touch video workflow with Hudl / Wyscout / InStat Scout

  • Outcome: Player One-Pager (bio, archetype fit, two clips, recommendation)

4) Admin & Compliance (the unglamorous edge)

  • Contact & consent, record-keeping, safeguarding basics, ID & school docs

  • Registration & trial mechanics; pre-trial comms and expectations

  • Outcome: Trial Pack (invite email/SMS template, checklist, consent forms)

5) Trials → Decisions → Handover

  • Day-of flow, staff roles, scoring sheets, coach debriefs

  • Advance/park/release pathways; feedback that protects relationships

  • Outcome: Decision Log + Coach Handover Sheet

6) Reporting & Review

  • Weekly pipeline report (traffic-light logic)

  • End-of-cycle review: hit-rate, misses, and market lessons

  • Outcome: GLS Dashboard (Google Sheets/Excel) with filters & status tags

Assessments

  • Field task: observe one matchday and submit a Player One-Pager (two positions).

  • Admin task: complete a Trial Pack for a chosen player (consent + checklist).

  • Final hand-in: a GLS Dashboard (10–20 prospects) with statuses and decision notes.

  • Role Profile Canvas • Discovery Plan • Priority Ladder

  • Player One-Pager • Trial Pack (invite/consent/checklist) • Decision Log

  • GLS Dashboard (Google Sheets/Excel)
